Raxar, manufactured by Glaxo Smith Kline, was intended to treat a variety of infections. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) did not require any mention of the risks of using Raxar on the label when the FDA approved use of the drug in August 1997. Raxar was linked to potentially fatal side effects, including deadly arrhythmia (heart-rhythm disturbances). It was recalled in October 1997.
The manufacturer, Glaxo, decided not to mention the possibility of fatalities from heart-rhythm disturbances on the drug label. Raxar is linked to 13 reported deaths.
