*update 1:45 PM* The Air National Guard C-130 Hercules plane was headed to Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona, where it was being decommissioned.
An Air National Guard C-130 Hercules plane has crashed in Savannah. The accident happened Wednesday, May 2nd around 11:30 AM. The crash occurred off of state Highway 21, near the Savannah/Hilton Head Airport. Smoke and fire can be seen from the crash site, and Highway 21 is closed at this time. The plane belonged to the Air National Guard 156th Airlift Wing based in Puerto Rico.
The C-130 Hercules plane is often used for cargo and troop transportation. 9 people were confirmed to be on board, and there were no survivors. The airmen who lost their lives were Maj. José R. Román Rosado, Maj. Carlos Pérez Serra, co-pilot 1st Lt. David Albandoz, Senior Master Sgt. Jan Paravisini, and Master Sgt. Mario Braña, Master Sgt. Jean Audriffred, Master Sgt. Víctor Colón, Senior Airman Roberto Espada, and Master Sgt. Eric Circuns.
