Some of the biggest car rental companies have agreed to stop leasing vehicles that are under safety recalls. The companies involved in the agreement include Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, Dollar, Thrifty, and National.
According to the Associated Press, this agreement will increase a legislative bill’s chances of passing through Congress when it is voted on in the upcoming session.
Advocates have been pressing for legislation regarding the leasing of recalled cars for some time. Currently, there is no law prohibiting rental companies from leasing a vehicle that’s under safety recall.
An official announcement will be made today in Washington D.C. with the family members of two women who were killed in 2004 when their recalled rental car caught fire.
