A deck collapsed at a Downtown Savannah bar on St. Patrick’s Day.
Around 4:30 PM the 12 foot high deck collapsed, injuring 14 people. Two are reported to have serious injuries. The deck fell on a seating area below. Savannah fire is working with the bar to ensure safety before it reopens. Overcrowding is not believed to be the cause of the accident. It could have collapsed due to structural issues.
“A total of 14 were ultimately transported to local hospitals for treatment, 2 serious injuries,” a tweet read.
Chris Clarke, the owner of Rogue Water issued a statement:
“We are deeply saddened by the terrible incident that occurred today during a time of celebration in our city. Our thoughts are with those injured and impacted. The safety of our customers and staff are of the utmost importance and we have been working closely and cooperating fully with the city of Savannah fire marshal and building inspector.”
