Earlier today, a press conference was held on the steps of the Allendale County Courthouse in Allendale, South Carolina, regarding charges of hazing surrounding the football team at Allendale-Fairfax High School.
One of the alleged victims is Shakur Chisolm, a star running back who recently transferred from Barnwell High School.
Fatima Alexis Zeidan of The Eichholz Law Firm is representing the rising senior.
In what Zeidan describes as a ‘gang-like’ initiation, Chisolm alleges he and several other team members were beaten up by fellow teammates with, among other things, belts and fists. Chisolm alleges he suffered cuts and bruises and required medical attention from the alleged attacks, reportedly orchestrated by team coaches during pre-season camp the week of Aug. 2, 2015.
Zeidan claims one of the the alleged attacks happened in the dark and only came to an end when a teammate intervened. Chisolm says he was able to run to one of the coach’s rooms in fear. However, that coach reportedly dismissed his concerns and told him to go to bed.
Chisolm addressed his alleged beating on Facebook. “Some people say it wasn’t that serious but if it wasn’t that serious why it had to be 20 to 30 dudes jumping on me? Why when I was yelling stop they didn’t?”
Zeidan and Rep. Justin Bamberg, who is also representing the Chisolm family, are asking that the head coach resign immediately and for an independent, third party investigation .
Chisolm, who has been scouted by Clemson and Auburn University among other colleges, is reportedly looking to transfer high schools. Zeidan and Bamber represent another student, Demetrius “DJ” Drayton, Jr. who was also allegedly hazed during the same pre-season football camp.
While no criminal charges have been filed at the moment, both the families and attorneys are looking at filing a civil lawsuit for damages.
