Contaminated Kotex Products
Select Kotex products are being recalled due to contamination with the Enterobacter sakazakii bacteria.
According to the FDA, “Kimberly-Clark announced a product recall of a limited number of its Kotex Natural Balance Security Unscented Tampons Regular Absorbency distributed to specific stores in the United States.”
The contaminated products were shipped between October 29 and November 2, 2011 to Wal-Mart retailers in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Texas. Product SKU numbers ending in 15063 (18 count packages) and 15068 (36 count packages) are the only tampons being recalled.
Contact with the Enterobacter sakazakii bacterium can cause serious health risks, including:
- Vaginal infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- Other life-threatening infections
