Dietary Supplement Linked to Bleeding, Deaths

Responding to reports of bleeding, strokes, and deaths, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning the public not to use the dietary supplement Reumofan.

Though marketed as natural remedies for arthritis and muscle pain, the FDA says Reumofan Plus and Reumofan Plus Premium actually contain measurable amounts of prescription-strength pharmaceuticals. A chemical analysis found Reumofan Plus contains three drugs, including the muscle relaxant methocarbomal and the anti-inflammatory drug dexamethasone. These substances can interact with other medications and cause life-threatening side effects in some consumers.

Despite warning the public about the products in June, the FDA continues to receive reports about complications related to Reumofan.

According to the Associated Press, the supplements are manufactured in Mexico by Riger Naturals and sold in the U.S. online and at retail stores.
