FDA Says Common Pain Relief Creams Can Cause Burns
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning to consumers that some common, over-the-counter pain relief creams can cause chemical burns.
Popular pain relief creams in this category include Bengay, Icy Hot, and Flexall.
The products are used to relieve aches and soreness in muscles and joints. However, federal officials say they have received reports of first-to-third-degree chemical burns from people using the creams. According to the Associated Press some of the burns were so severe that the patients required hospitalization.
The FDA advises the public to stop using a pain relief cream if they experience pain, swelling, or blistering of the skin.
