Government Investigating Grand Cherokees and Ram Trucks

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating Chrysler’s Ram pickup truck and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV following consumers’ safety issue complaints.

2009 and 2010 Ram pickup truck owners have complained that its rear wheels can lock up due to a gearing failure, potentially causing an accident. The majority of owners noted that they were traveling 35 mph or faster when their wheels seized.

Regarding the 2012 Grand Cherokee, the NHTSA says its power steering hose can leak fluid into the engine compartment, creating a potential fire hazard. The agency has received reports of engine fires in the past.

Depending on the investigation results, recalls could be issued for one or both of the vehicles.
