Savannah Law Firm Helping Employees of Sanderson Farms
The wage and hour lawyers at The Eichholz Law Firm are seeking current and former employees of poultry companies throughout the state of Georgia. In light of recent allegations against Sanderson Farms, the Savannah law firm is investigating whether the hiring of illegal aliens by the poultry companies has had an effect on the employment and wages of legal workers.
According to a lawsuit filed by two former employees, Sanderson Farms allegedly hired illegal immigrants in order to keep labor costs down. By knowingly hiring illegal aliens, the poultry company supposedly was able to pay less per hour than if they hired legal permanent residents and U.S. citizens.
In the United States, it is against the law for an employer to hire an individual who is not certified to work in this country. More specifically, an employer cannot knowingly hire, recruit or recommend an individual who is unauthorized to work in the country. Once it is discovered that one of their worker’s is unauthorized, it is illegal for an employer to keep an alien on staff. Additionally, an employer must adhere to record keeping requirements according to U.S. legislation.
The attorneys at The Eichholz Law Firm are investigating whether the hiring of illegal immigrants has had an effect on the employment and wages of permanent residents and U.S. citizens.
