The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning to consumer that common over-the-counter pain creams can cause chemical burns. Popular pain creams include Bengay, Icy Hot and Flexall.

The products are used to relieve muscle and joint aches and pains. However, federal officials say they have received reports of people receiving first-to-third-degree chemical burns from using the creams. According to the Associated Press, some of the burns were so severe that the patients had to be hospitalized.

The FDA advises the public to stop using the pain creams if they experience pain, swelling, or blistering of the skin.
