A man wanted for a fatal hit and run accident in December 2012 has turned himself into the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office. The man is being charged with homicide by vehicle and failure to stop and render aid.
The man he struck was riding his bicycle along Hodgeville Road when he was struck from behind by a vehicle. He was spotted by another civilian lying on the side of the road next to his wreaked bicycle. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later died as a result of traumatic injuries.
The driver of the vehicle had told investigators in December that he might have struck something with his vehicle and it was taken in as evidence, while a warrant for his arrest was later issued.
