Forever Cheese has voluntarily recalled one lot of its Frescolina-brand ricotta salata cheese due to listeria contamination. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says one person has died and 14 people have been hospitalized.
The recalled cheese was sold from June 20 to August 9 in California, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington. The production number on the cheese was “441202”.
Consumers that purchased the recalled cheese are advised no to eat it and to throw it away.
