A Georgia man is dead after an accident with a train near Dean Forest Road and Bourne Avenue (GA 307) early Thursday morning.
According to the Garden City Fire Department, a man driving a pickup truck ignored the crossing gate warning and attempted to drive around the railroad caution arm. His vehicle was struck by an oncoming train, which then dragged the truck for about a mile.
The Amtrak passenger train did not have any passengers on board at the time and none of the crew members on the train were injured.
Southbound Highway 21 was closed for several hours while investigators looked over the scene of the accident. There is no explanation as to why the driver chose to go around the caution arm.
