Last night, a Savannah man was charged with reckless driving after crashing into a police cruiser.

Michael Russell was driving on Whitebluff Road when he made a U-turn that almost caused a collision with a South Precinct officer. The officer proceeded to follow Russell’s pickup truck and saw the driver run over construction cones and a sidewalk. Another police officer activated a stop in front of Russell’s truck, but Russell only stopped the truck and drove towards the cruiser. The police car sustained minor damages.

Several officers struggled with Russell before pepper spraying him and pulling him from the truck. The officers found an alcoholic beverage in the vehicle. According to WTOC, Russell’s driver license had been suspended from a prior DUI charge.

Besides reckless driving, Russell was also charged with no proof of insurance, failure to yield to a vehicle entering the roadway, failure to maintain lane, having an open container in the vehicle, driving with a suspended  or revoked license, driving under the influence and obstruction.
