Subaru has issued a recall for 634,000 vehicles due to an electrical problem that can start a fire. The puddle lamp in the vehicle can short out when the wiring is exposed to moisture. At this time, there have been no reports of injury or accidents. However, the automaker has received reports where the short did occur that resulted in smoke.
While Subaru thinks that only about 50,000 vehicles have defective puddle wiring, they are recalling over 600,000 vehicles. Subaru is recalling the following models:
- 2006-2012 Tribeca SUVs
- 2009-2012 Forester SUVs
- 2010-2011 Legacy sedans
- 2010-2011 Outback wagons
Owners will be sent notices asking them if they have the optional puddle lights. Those who do will need repairs.
