A fatal crash that resulted in at least one death shut down a major roadway in Wayne County for several hours Thursday morning.
The crash happened at the intersection of U.S. Highway 341/SR 27 and Joey Williamson Road just before 6:30 a.m., according to the Appling County Emergency Management Agency.
The traffic accident involved two cars and a tractor-trailer. Although one casualty was reported, it is unclear whether anyone was treated for injuries. According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the tractor-trailer carried fertilizer and spilled diesel fuel at the scene. A HAZMAT team was on standby in case any other material had spilled during the accident.
As a result of cleanup efforts, the area was shut down for hours and all traffic was rerouted. The crash is currently under investigation.
