A head-on collision that killed one person and sent another to a hospital shut down the Diamond Causeway near the Moon River Bridge for several hours Sunday evening in Savannah, Ga.
The call came in at 6:39 p.m. after a maroon sedan driving eastbound on the causeway crossed the center line and struck a white SUV near Pin Point Road between Truman Parkway and Skidaway Island. Each car was carrying one passenger.
One person was killed in the two-vehicle crash and a second was taken to Memorial University Medical Center for unknown injuries, according to the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. A dog was also a passenger in one of the vehicles. It was uninjured and taken by animal services.
Traffic was shut down for more than three hours after the accident. The causeway was reopened around 10 p.m. Sunday. Savannah-Chatham police are now investigating the crash.
