An Emanuel County deputy and two others were injured in a crash Monday night following a high-speed pursuit in Jefferson and Emanuel counties.
Jefferson County deputies tried to stop the driver of a 1995 Ford Mustang for speeding on U.S. Highway 1 just north of Louisville at around 9 p.m Monday, according to Emanuel County Sheriff J. Tyson Stephens. As the chase headed away from Jefferson County at excessive speeds, Emanuel County deputies were called to assist.
The driver, later identified as 26-year-old Deneco J. Morris, lost control of the car at the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Highway 57 and collided with a pursuing Emanuel County deputy identified as 30-year-old Stephen A. Dowd.
The driver and passenger, 24-year-old Christopher R. Latta, were flown by Air Evac to a hospital in Augusta for unspecified injuries. Dowd was flown to Memorial Hospital in Savannah where he was treated and released Tuesday morning.
An investigation into the chase and crash is being conducted by the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
