Laundry detergent packets are becoming popular amongst consumers due to their convenience.  The packets contain a single use of detergent; they are intended to be used in place of liquid powders and detergents.

Doctors across the country say that the packets are a danger to young children. Children are mistaking the brightly colored packets for candy. The Star Tribune reports that there have been 250 cases this year of children swallowing the packets. Kids that have swallowed the detergent packets experienced nausea and breathing problems; these symptoms are more severe than the typical detergent poisoning.

Parents should keep the laundry detergent packets out of the reach of small children.
