Two single-vehicle accidents that resulted in the death of one man and the critical injury of another over the weekend are under investigation by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police.
Officers from the Major Accident Investigation Team are working to uncover the cause of the motorcycle crash that killed a 33 year old man, and that of a second accident that seriously injured a 31 year old, on Quacco Road.
The accident happened around 11 p.m. Saturday night on Montgomery Cross Road. Witnesses say the motorcycle driver was riding his 2010 Harley Davidson recklessly. He was heading west toward Abercorn Street when he hit a median, then a tree, and was finally ejected. The driver was speeding at the time of the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second accident took place Friday night on Quacco Road, when a 1996 BMW lost control and crossed over the I-95 overpass. The BMW traveled along the wood line of the interstate until it hit so many trees its trajectory was stopped. The BMW was flipped over when the driver was extracted by Southside Fire and Emergency Services.
