West Chatham Teacher Dies in I-95 Car Accident

The victim of a fatal I-95 auto accident has been identified as a 62-year-old resident of Valona in McIntosh County and a local educator.

On Mar. 3, Persons was identified by Georgia State Patrol Trooper, and Savannah-Chatham school officials confirmed that she was indeed the fifth-grade teacher at West Chatham Elementary School of the same name.

The accident took place at approximately 6:30 a.m. on a stretch of interstate in Liberty County. In all, five cars were involved and seven people were transported to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment.

Emergency crews had to extract three people from their vehicles, and those individuals are currently listed in critical condition. Two of the victims are reported to have walked away from their vehicles while the remaining victims required emergency assistance. No one was ejected from their vehicles.
